All About Me

Hi there! I'm Dr. Rosamond Smith (she/her) - the face behind Rooted Path Psychology. I hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville, and am licensed in the state of Washington. I offer in-person Walk & Talk Therapy in and around Tacoma, and I also have an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) by the PSYPACT Commission, allowing me to offer teletherapy services to adults of all ages in 42 participating states. I have over a decade of training and experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and insomnia - and I enjoy working with anyone who feels "stuck" in some way in their life. More than "healing mental illness," I strive to support clients' holistic wellness.

I was first drawn to the idea of therapy at summer camp as a kid, watching campers share their most vulnerable struggles and provide compassionate support to one another, seemingly due to their shared interests and values fostering a quick and strong bond. I have seen the same power of human connection in my work now, and I know that therapy works best when clients and I have shared interests and values to build a strong therapeutic relationship from the start.

So, if you'd like a therapist with tattoos and messy hair, who curses and makes bad puns, and who is known to get on soap-boxes about sociopolitical impacts on mental health, (or if you'd like Frank & Beans as your kitty co-therapists) I can't wait to connect with you.

All About YOU.

I believe humans generally do the best they can with the internal resources and external supports they have. When those things aren't enough, mental health and overall functioning take the hit. I trust your understanding of your problems and experiences, and will work to earn your trust in our relationship. Together, we can experiment with new behaviors and ways of understanding to get you "unstuck" and moving forward toward your goals.

So, What Do You Say?

The idea of therapy is kind of weird. It makes sense that people might initially feel odd sharing difficult experiences with a stranger - but my clients say I make it comfortable. I use humor with a mix of warmth and directness, and am authentically myself. I invite you to be authentically yourself, too! Creating that safe space for you to be vulnerably you while working together toward the life you want is my passion. I'd be honored to do this work with you.
